Timely Touch by Pinhook Bloodstock

Pinhook Bloodstock’s Dave Mee picked up a bargain at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale in May with a $41,000 bid for Touch Of Greatness.

The 8yo Don Eduardo mare received a valuable pedigree update last week when her first foal Hair Trigger won his maiden at Wyong. “I bought her from Gooree Park for a client before he showed up,” Mee said. “He’s by Smart Missile and the mare is carrying another Smart Missile due in September.”

Touch Of Greatness was a front-running Hawkesbury winner at her second and final start for Gooree Park. She’s a half-sister to Agueda (General Nediym) who was stakes placed at Randwick and Flemington.

Trainer James Cummings intends to keep Hair Trigger in work for the early three-year-old feature races. “We did something similar with Eurozone and he went on to win the Rosebud and Stan Fox,” Cummings said. “I would rather have Hair Trigger at Leilani Lodge, keeping up his routine with a few trips to the beach, than have him standing around in a cold paddock.

“He was such a heavy colt that we decided to geld him early on,” Cummings added. “He’s a horse really going places.”

Jockey Blake Shinn agreed with that assessment after Hair Trigger stormed home in the Huckel Excavations 2YO Maiden (1200m) at Wyong. “He showed great race sense for a young horse,” Shinn said. “It was a brilliant display of acceleration to win.”

Pinhook Bloodstock was active at the Great Southern Sale last month with a top spend of $72,000 for Flemington winner El Greco. The Artie Schiller 3yo is a Contract Racing homebred and will now be trained by Tony Sears at Toowoomba.

Mee also bought weanling colts by Unencumbered ($60,000) and Starcraft ($40,000) at Oaklands and followed up with Snitzel mare Artesian Miss (+Excelebration) and General Nediym mare In Need I Am (+Unencumbered).
