Pinhook Bloodstock International Video Blog - Nov 8 2017

Each and every month Pinhook Bloodstock International's video blog will discuss the Bloodstock agency's month in review; what PBI is currently looking to buy and/or has for sale; relevant discussion on the happenings in the Bloodstock world; and what’s to look forward to in the month ahead.

This month we discuss: HONG KONG ORDERS / FLEMINGTON CARNIVAL Horses targeting Group races through the carnival such as the Carbine Club Stakes, VIC Derby, and Seppelt Wine Stakes etc. that do not quite reach the desired level, and even for those that do, especially geldings, the demand from Hong Kong for lightly raced 2 and 3yo's is as strong as ever. For discussion on pricing and processes from an Agency with a proven Asian track record feel free to Call Dave Mee at PBI

PBI will be in attendance at the: NZB READY TO RUN SALES - KARAKA NOV 22 & 23 With 19 Gr 1 wins and 110 stakes wins in the past five seasons alone, including Gingernuts, Turn Me Loose, Mongolian Khan, Sangster and Luvaluva, the advantages of buying from the NZB breeze up sales are there for all to see.

As mentioned in previous blogs, here at PBI we have made a point of digging a little deeper into the outcomes from buying Aus/NZ 2yo sale graduates, & our research has been conducted with two questions in mind:

Q1: Is there any correlation between buying from 2yo sales with a view to profitable on-selling as trial winners and/or lightly raced horses? A1: Yes. Definitely. And aside from their being certain common threads that eventual horses sold overseas possess, there are certain stallions in Asia that we believe are flying under the radar and are about to go BANG, so very much worth targeting at this years Karaka sales.

Q2: Are there any common threads that eventual stakes winners possess coming out of 2yo sales? A2: For the majority of the stakes horses emanating from these sales the answer is also yes. By taking the time to investigate and form our own opinion based on a large sample size the weight of numbers reviewed allowed us to pick up on certain patterns that we think give us a little more insight than many others.

MONTH IN REVIEW

AUSTRALIAN READY TO RUN SALES:

PBI was in attendance at both Ready to Run Sales in Australia during October. At the Inglis Ready to Race Sale in Melbourne, PBI purchased: Lot 24 - The Starcraft x Stage Doll (Serheed) colt for $65,000. A real 3yo type very much in his sire's mould, he has been put in the system and will eventually find his way up to Hong Kong for his overseas based owner.

At the Magic Millions 2yo Sales PBI picked up two outstanding colts: Lot 128 - The Toorak Toff x Jackpot Queen (Not a Single Doubt) colt for $50,000. He was a replica of his broodmare sire - he had an intelligent head, great front end, was well balanced with natural muscle, was light on his feet and breezed well, whilst still having plenty of improvement in him. Lot 198 - The All Too Hard x Perfect Stranger (Red Ransom) colt for $160,000. Bought in conjunction with Tony Sears, this colt was a very imposing, physical type of horse that just emanated raw power. Big, strong and handsome with a huge motor!

Both horses will be trained by Tony Sears, and be given a 3-4 month break before being set for the Brisbane winter carnival. For more detail on our findings and to discuss how we can help select your next winner Dave Mee from PBI will be on site at Karaka from the morning of Monday 20th Nov, two days prior to the sale starting

ACE HIGH WINS THE VIC DERBY:

In the first 6 months of 2017 PBI purchased a total of 14 weanlings for clients through both public auction and private means, most of which will be re-offered in 2018. While there is still plenty of water to travel under the bridge before these horses are re-sold the one that might just return the best $ROI is the Hallowed Crown half brother to 2 x Gr 1 winner ACE HIGH! This weanling colt was purchased at the Magic Millions National sale and will be re-offered at the 2018 #InglisClassic sale
