The Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m) in Adelaide has been earmarked for lightly raced three-year-old Flying Mascot (Tavistock) after her tough first-up victory at Sandown yesterday. The Lindsay Park- trained filly, a $25,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale purchase for Pinhook Bloodstock’s Dave Mee and Flying Start Syndications’ Cameron Bennett, held off D’Jumbuck (Starspangledbanner) in the Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1400m) in a photo finish with Damian Lane in the saddle. Yulong Code (Zoustar) was a length away in third.

"We think she's a filly that will get out to 2000 metres so to win this race is really handy to get her rating up and now we can target those nice races over in Adelaide with her,” co-trainer Ben Hayes said. "I think Damian summed it up nicely.

She jumped nicely from the gate, he gave her a little squeeze, and she put herself nicely on the pace. She was in a nice rhythm and then he let her go through her gears but just late it looked like she was peaking on her run, so it was really good."

Bennett and Mee also had another $25,000 National Yearling Sale graduate, the Robert Heathcote-trained three-year-old filly Deep Sceiva (Deep Field), score at Doomben yesterday.
